Use your laptop as an Xbox/Xbox 360 “Wireless Adapter”

January 29th, 2008

So your router and Xbox 360 are on completely opposite sides of your home, running a long, ugly wire along the floor is out of the question, and you don’t feel like dropping $100 on an Xbox Wi-Fi adapter? If you’ve got a laptop with Wi-Fi, Instructables details how to use it as an Xbox 360 wireless adapter. In all it’s a really simple process involving sharing your laptop’s wireless internet connection with your Xbox through an ethernet cable. It’s not as good as a wired connection, but if you don’t regularly rely on the connection, it’s a good workaround. If you want a slightly more permanent solution, you can also build an Xbox Wi-Fi adapter on the cheap.

Axxium Gaming - Evolving!

January 21st, 2008

I’m long overdue for some blog love. I’m also long overdue for an announcement to the community regarding Axxium’s status and big news.

I’ve had a couple people contact me with the scariest question I ever hear - “Is Axxium dead?”. The answer is “Absolutely not!”

Thinking more about the focuses of Axxium, recently ,and where our words are being heard the loudest- I completely understand the concerns. Hell, I’m sure many of the people in the forums don’t even know who I am! That’s not cool at all! Wink

Axxium will never be dead. My primary job as President should be bringing the community together and focus on growth and progression. I’ve really been failing in this area. I forget, at times, that Axxium may appear to be dieing to certain parts of the community because I work on Axxium items and talk with Axxium members on a daily basis. A lot of my management has been applied in areas that I simply should not be managing - such as competitive team management and pesky problem solving. Axxium has lost some very influential executive members in the past few months and left some serious gaps that needed to be mended.

This can be fixed very simply. I just need to recruit a game manager. The game manager’s job is to simply make sure the logistics of the competitive core are attended to. They are the official liaison between each competitive division and myself. This position is very important and requires a lot of friendly communication with members. Simply having an official executive member around for the divisions is very important to making them feel a part of the organization.

I will be a seeking a current Axxium member to hold this position - but if nobody is available, I will seek a member from the competitive gaming community (knowledge of competitive gaming is a must).

On to Some Axxium Updates…

Just because I haven’t announced updates - doesn’t mean I’m not busy as hell with Axxium stuff. As everyone knows, there’s been a ton of great games released in the past 6 months. Sounds great, right? Well sure! Unfortunately, so many great new games coming out tears apart teams. Players get excited for new games and break off - dismembering teams and leaving the organization with gaps to fill. However, great new games open up great new opportunities and communities to influence with our messages.

Competitive Core

Counter-strike Source

Since recruiting the new CS:S team, the players have worked extremely hard online and on LANs to represent all that Axxium is. They’ve been extremely successful as a competitive entity in e-sports most competitive game. Currently a very respectable team in CAL and CEVO, Axxium CS:S strives to make their presence felt in online tournaments and gaming communities by representing Axxium on community forums, servers, and LANs. Keep an eye out for this team as they’re uber talented, extremely friendly, and a great addition to our organization.

Call of Duty 4

Axxium is proud to announce the addition of a Call of Duty 4 division. This new game is just starting to pick up and the Axxium divisions is shaping up to be extremely competitive. Willeh, from past Axxium Day of Defeat, returns with the team to show the new guys what Axxium is all about; community and purpose. Good luck, fellas!

Team Fortress 2

Gosh! How frustrating! I’ve wanted to get a division together for TF2 for so long! It’s such a great game with a strong community - that it’s hard not to do. We’ve been very close to getting a community division of TF2 many times. I’d still like to have a team - so please let me know if you’re interested. I just need a leader to step up and start recruiting! <3

Halo 3

Axxium is also recruiting for a competitive Halo 3 division. We’ve been talking to past Axxium divisions for interest - but are about ready to just start recruiting from the community. Let us know if you’re awesome at Halo 3!

Expanding the Axxium Community

XBOX Live

Axxium is excited to be making its influence on XBOX live. If you haven’t seen XBOX’s new community features - check ‘em out. They need some more features, but it’s ready to start networking with other Axxium members! Everyone who has XBOX Live should be adding “axxiumgaming” to their friends. This is acting as the liaison account to meet other axxium members. Anybody who is friends with “axxiumgaming” considers themselves an Axxium members or are a part of the Axxium community (same as a member in our book Smiley.

Myspace

Just like a trillion other people out there, Axxium is on Myspace.com. Add Axxium by going to http://myspace.com/axxiuminc — We’re also looking for people who are interested in helping manage that page by updating it.. adding friends.. mingling.. etc etc. We also have a Myspace Axxium group you can find by going to our myspace as well.

Facebook

Axxium’s on Facebook! Search for Axxium in groups or add Ty Colwell as a friend. Wink

Website

Everyone should be signed up on the website! Its about time for a community upgrade which will add more interactive features between members on the site. To register, click below - or click the “Login” button on the site and then click the register button from there…

http://axxiumgaming.com/component/option,com_registration/Itemid,0/task,register/

Spreadshirt.com

Axxium will be opening up a new online store at http://spreadshirt.com - where you can buy high-quality Axxium gear as often as you’d like. This will help reduce the confusion, time, and frustration related to traditional printing processes. We’ll post the url on the site soon.

Public Servers / Sponsorships

As everyone knows - Axxium loves to have pub servers… unfortunately, public servers are not cheap! I will be attempting to seek server sponsorships to obtain public servers for great games like COD4, TF2, CSS, and many more. This is absolutely up to the community! You choose the best games and we’ll make it happen. Smiley

Steam Community

Axxium is also on the steam community. Our numbers for our group are pathetic! We should have about 20x the members than we currently do. Search the community for Axxium and request to be a part of the group. Then invite your friends! This is a great way to play with other Axxium members and have a great time! Or you can add Axxium directly to steam - axxiumgaming or add myself and I’ll hook you up! (leadtummy@hotmail.com)

New Ventrilo Server

To take some stress off SirChaos, we’ve created a new public / team ventrilo server. The info is listed below. Make sure to follow previous rules and not to spam. This is very important so we don’t need to make it a private server. If you would like us to set you up an account, let me know and I can do that.

72.37.147.2:5378

I think that’s about it for now, everyone! As soon as I can tackle a few of the more bogging items - I’ll be able to start shifting my focus and time to community development and moving forward with our progressive trends of the past. Thanks to everyone for their dedication and all the time you’ve spent with our truly special organization. New members are amazed by our accomplishments, our friendliness, and our relentless pursuit for education and truth in the gaming communities. Thanks!

Cheers,

Ty “Theory/Truth” Colwell

Mr. Rogers

I was lucky enough to stumble across this article that outlined great facts about Mr. Rogers. I’ve always admired the guy - but had been a bit scared of him. Go to LANFest2k7 and Get Laid

August 29th, 2007

LanFest2k7

…Ok, well maybe not… it’s not for us to predict (we’re most likely going to say ‘no’… unless, of course, you’re down with 400+ chunky/scrawny, stinky/sweaty, noobie/nerds). However, you will get metaphorically “laid” by Axxium if you go. Meaning we’ll love you allllll niggghtt lonngg. Axxium probably won’t be competing but you should keep an eye out for recruiters rummaging around looking for kids that enjoy a good time (and who like candy).

Hit up Theory on irc.gamesurge.net #axxium and let him know if you’re going. We plan on selling new Axxium shirts there, you might get a discount or some other sort of love.

If you’re not currently using Firefox as your default browser, you’re not truly experiencing the Internet as nicely as you should be. Why is everyone dryhumping Firefox? Well, mostly just because Internet Explorer sucks.

Believe it or not, there’s actually other reasons people use Firefox. There’s a lot of cool little tricks and extensions you can get to make your browsing experience more glorious. I found this nifty little Firefox tip while strolling through my daily blogs.

Comcast Cuts Off Heavy Internet Users!

August 26th, 2007

Comcast has warned broadband Internet customers across the country to curb their downloading or wind up on the curb.

The company has a bandwidth limitation that, if broken, can result in a 12-month suspension of service. The problem, according to customer complaints, is that the telecom giant refuses to reveal how much downloading is too much.

The company, which a few years ago advertised the service as “unlimited” has an “acceptable use policy” which enforces the invisible download limit.

The 23-part policy, states that it is a breach of contract to generate “levels of traffic sufficient to impede others’ ability to send or retrieve information.” But nowhere does it detail what levels of traffic will impede others.

Michael, of Speedway, Ind., uses Comcast Internet to transfer large work files while his son uses it for school research. In 2004 he received letters threatening to disconnect his Internet if he doesn’t restrict his bandwidth.

“Unfortunately, neither the letter, the AUP, the Comcast websites, nor any printed Comcast materials specify what those bandwidth usage limitations are,” Michael wrote to ConsumerAffairs.Com. “Essentially, what they are doing is drawing an invisible line, then threatening to disconnect anyone who crosses it.

“I am more than willing to curb my usage to meet any limitations set by Comcast…if only they would actually make those limitations available to their subscribers,” he said.

Windows Genuine Advantage suffers worldwide outage, problems galore

August 25th, 2007

Windows

How does this affect you? If you use Windows, do your best to avoid anything that requires a ping to WGA. That means you should stay away from patches and add-ons until the coast is clear. WGA will not reach out across the Internet and deactivate your copy of Windows, but you should avoid talking to a WGA server for any reason.

For those of you doing installations and upgrades this weekend, we recommend that you avoid activation at this time. Remember that you can run Windows legally for 30 days without activating.

If you attempt a validation and it fails, your install may be marked as non-genuine, which could lead to several annoyances. First things first, do not reboot a Windows machine that has been marked as non-genuine. Once you do so, you will lose functionality and the Aero interface. It would be best to wait until this problem has been resolved.

Bioshock Best Game of 2007?

August 23rd, 2007

Bioshock

I was honestly skeptical when I started hearing reviews about Bioshock. The plot and the whole concept felt a little overdone, in my opinion. However, I downloaded the demo last night on Xbox Live… and boy was I ever wrong. I’ve never been a big RPG guy - but first person shooters have been a great passion of mine. This game brings the best of both worlds by offering TONS of different ways to play the game.

The game has fantastic graphics, intense cinematics, and great control. Watch out for this game to be legendary. Theory’s official rating based on the demo? I think the full game will be a 10/10. :)

More Info  (From MSNBC, no doubt - wtf?)
